Week of September 12

This will be our first FULL week of school!.
A lot has happened the first 6 days!
But our PE clothes coming in is not one of them, so sorry.

You can subscribe to "acmsbulletin" on youtube to
check out our daily school bulletin.

If you have not turned in your PE handout form, do so ASAP.
They were due Friday.  I have attached it here.
Please print it and send it in, if you lost yours.
Or ask your teacher for another one on Monday.

We are going to be dressing out though.
So just bring any color shirt and shorts to wear.
You do not have to go and buy anything new.
Make sure they are school appropriate please!
When the clothes come in, we will get them to you.
We will be checking for correct shoes.  So those must
be appropriate.  You will get full participation points
if you wear the correct shoes and bring clothes to workout in!

We do have small shorts and large shirts if you need
to buy those.  See me.

The first few days we will play Capture the Flag.
Fun times!

Have a fit and fantastic week!

Just print this little box, sign and turn in. You can cut and paste this section to a word document.

*****Cut here and return to your PE teacher

Actual handout:

Life Long Fitness Department

We believe that the development of life skills is the most important aspect of our program.  The students strive to develop a high level of fitness
while engaged in sport activities.  We incorporate both the mental and the physical in striving for the highest level of fitness.
All students can succeed!  Success breeds success.

Above all, we strive to make our classes as fun as possible.  We sincerely hope their experience through our department
is a positive and inspirational one that will instill the importance of “Fitness through Life”.

Please read the policies and procedures carefully, share the information with your parents, and keep handy for easy reference.
The procedures will establish our class culture for the school year.  The next page must be signed, by you and a parent/guardian,
and returned to your teacher.  Through the course of the year, it will help clear up any questions you or
your parents may have about our program.

Class Procedures, Expectations and Rules

In today’s society who you are and the character you possess is more important than any other single factor in determining long term success.  Your character is made up of many facets, the most important being, how you treat yourself and others, and how you react in a given situation.
Each of us is responsible for being a responsible, active citizen in our homes, school, community, and eventually the world.  Daily opportunities present themselves for us to become socially responsible.  All procedures and school rules will be followed every day.  They will become routine.

Locker Room Procedures

Each student will be issued a locker.  DO NOT GIVE YOUR COMBINATION TO ANYONE!  DO NOT ENTER ANY ONE ELSE’S LOCKER.
ALWAYS LOCK YOUR LOCKER!
Report any lost item to your P.E. teacher.
No one is allowed in the locker room without a teacher present.
Entering the locker room:
  • If locker room is locked, wait in a single file.
  • As you enter, do so patiently and politely.
In the locker room:
  • Use appropriate language and no whistling, horseplay or excessive noise.
  • Locker rooms will be locked after everyone leaves.

Equipment and Facilities

  • Report any damaged equipment immediately to your teacher.
  • Do not climb on fences, backstops, goalposts, baskets, or lockers.
  • Food, drink, and gum is prohibited in all indoor P.E. facilities. (Water is acceptable)

Activities

Most units are 3-6 weeks long and will usually include a written and/or skills exam.  We also have a classroom health unit during the winter trimester.   The health unit includes written work and homework.
We also have a Wellness Faire every year in March.  If you would like to volunteer please let us know.

Dress Code

  • Students are required to wear (ACMS) shorts and t-shirts during all activities. (must not be altered)  The cost is TEN dollars each for the shorts and t-shirts ($20.00 total)
  • Any color ATHLETIC SHOE with an arch is acceptable.
  • Students are required to print their first name and last initial on all P.E. clothes.
  • If a student forgets his/her clothes, we will provide clean “loaner” clothes that are signed out through the P.E. teachers.  See policy in your locker room.  You may not borrow clothes if you already have loaner clothes checked out.
  • All students will take their P.E. clothes home to wash weekly, for sanitary reasons.
  • Students cannot use P.E. clothes that belong to other students.

Medical Excuses

  • If you cannot participate in a P.E. activity, you must bring a note from a parent/guardian
  •               (good for 3 days) or doctor.  If you see a doctor we need to see the note.
    • >Notes must have the following: a) a parent/guardian or doctors signature
    •                                                    b) the dates to be excused and type of injury
  • You must suit out unless physically unable due to injury.
  • All long-term medicals (10 or more days) will be required to do written work.
  • If the student cannot participate in P.E. for an extended period of time, (handled case by case)  alternative activities will be provided.  These may include moving the child to another class situation or using them as an aide.
  • If your child has asthma, we will help them modify their activity level appropriately.      Consequences

Consequences will be aligned with ACMS and district policies. See ACMS handbook.

    Grading Procedures

Your physical education grade each trimester will be based on participation and unit grades.  The unit grade includes skill and knowledge used in an activity, written tests, and skills tests.  The participation/cooperation grade will be based on a point system.
Participation/cooperation grade:  As the trimester progresses, the student will have an opportunity to gain or lose points.
Ways to gain points:  Following classroom expectations weekly
                                     Outstanding effort and/or class leadership

Ways to lose points:  Wearing another student’s uniform
Non-suit and/or lack of effort or participation

Each week all instructors will update the students’ grades on the computer.  It is your responsibility to
keep informed of your current grade status.  If situations arise which need to be handled in a special
way, parents will be informed by phone call or in writing.  You can e-mail us if there are any situations
    that need to be clarified.
